What is Fair Trade?

The word "fair" can mean different things to different people. "Fair Trade" means that trading partnerships are based on reciprocal benefits and mutual respect; that prices paid to producers reflect the work they do; that workers have the right to organize; that national health, safety, and wage laws are enforced; and that products are environmentally sustainable and conserve natural resources.

I love how MotherTongues celebrates unity in diversity by selecting and honoring particular words from a variety of cultures, words that can't be translated without losing their meaning, words that have something to do with community, justice, living well. The T-shirts, bags, and hats make great birthday and holiday gifts. We can all wear or carry words that connect us to one another, that help us to celebrate the beautiful diversity of our amazing planet. ~ Kim
